U.S. News Ranks Moffitt Cancer Center #18 in Cancer

TAMPA, Fla. — Moffitt Cancer Center has been ranked 18 in cancer in U.S. News and World Report’s 2011-12 Best Hospitals rankings, available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals. The rankings, annually published by U.S. News for the past 22 years, will also be featured in the U.S. News Best Hospitals guidebook, which will go on sale Aug. 30.

Moffitt Cancer Center Offering Low-Dose CT Lung Cancer Screening

TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center is now offering low-dose CT lung cancer screening. The test is targeting people 55 to 74 who have more than a 30 pack-year history of cigarette smoking (30 pack-year is equivalent to one pack per day for 30 years, two packs per day for 15 years, etc.). For those who don’t meet the criteria, a physician’s order is required. Appointments may be made with a pulmonologist in Moffitt’s lung cancer program to discuss the pros and cons of screening.

TAMPA, Fla. (June 29, 2011) – In an effort to raise awareness and educate the Latino community, Moffitt Cancer Center presents "¡Salud! Serie de charlas," a free program developed by Latinos to be delivered entirely in Spanish. Walgreens, Moffitt Cancer Center Team Up to 'Make a Difference' in the Fight Against Cancer

Moffitt Cancer Center To Offer BMT Clinic in Puerto Rico

TAMPA, Fla. – Starting June 24, Moffitt Cancer Center will be opening a blood and marrow transplant evaluation and follow-up clinic in Puerto Rico at the Bayamon Cancer Center. Dr. Melissa Alsina, head of Moffitt’s Multiple Myeloma Blood and Marrow Transplant Program and native Puerto Rican, will travel to the island once a month on a Friday. Alsina will see patients who have been referred by a physician as candidates for a blood and marrow transplant.
