General Information
The Office of Technology Management and Commercialization (OTMC) is responsible for identifying those companies that will rapidly and effectively develop Moffitt technology into useful products available to the public, which may be accomplished via a license agreement. The license agreement is an agreement under which Moffitt grants an interested company the right to "make, use and sell" products based on the licensed invention. The terms of a license agreement are negotiated between OTMC and a representative from an interested company.
A successfully negotiated license agreement assures Moffitt and its scientists that the technology will be diligently developed for the public benefit. At the same time, it provides Moffitt with funds that will be used for research and educational purposes. Often the license agreement provides a licensee sufficient exclusivity to create a product which will be competitive and profitable. Moffitt will also enter into an option agreement with an interested company, which is a contract whereby an interested company is granted for a limited time the exclusive opportunity to acquire a license under negotiated terms. The option agreement affords the interested company a limited period of time to evaluate the technology to determine if the company wants to enter into a formal license.
A partial list of technologies available for licensing is accessible on this Web site. A company representative who wishes to enter into a license agreement between its company and Moffitt or who wishes to learn more about Moffitt's technologies may contact our office at 813-745-6828.
